POSITION SUMMARY:
The Mobile Harm Reduction project is focused on providing harm reduction supports and services to offreserve Indigenous clients who consume drugs and other substances. The Outreach Workers will work in pairs to meet clients where they are at on the streets/shelters and provide basic harm reduction supplies such as clean needles, portable needle dispenser, essential food items, tents, blankets, and referrals to other supports. The positions are based out of the Native Council Program Office in Charlottetown but require daily travel to various locations across PEI.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work as part of a team to provide harm reduction supports, education, and referrals to clients across PEI.
• Maintain adequate supplies and restock as needed.
• Provide referrals to programs and services.
• Maintain client wellness records and key demographic data on client.
Provide monthly activity reports.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• Combination of educational or professional experience addressing homelessness, mental health & addictions, and/or a medical background.
• Training in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques considered an asset.
• Experience and/or knowledge working with Indigenous peoples considered an asset.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive during evening hours are required.
• Vulnerable sector record check required before commencing employment.
