Position Summary:
The Gender Based Violence Prevention (GBVP) Coordinator of the Native Council of PEI will work to advocate for the families directly affected by MMIWG (Missing Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls), MMIMB (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Men and Boys), and Gender Based Violence.  The GBV Prevention Coordinator will provide an engagement session to the community and collect input for NCPEI’s Action Plan.  The GBVP Coordinator will provide educational sessions to community partners, educational institutions, and government officials to push and advocate for the MMIWG Calls for Justice and the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.

Role and Responsibilities
· Continue the development of NCPEI’s MMIWG/MMIMB Action Plan.
· Engage the community and membership in discussions and information sessions on the MMIWG/MMIMB Action Plan.
· Work with the Policy Analyst Team (PAT team) to collect data as required and provide data in a timely manner.
· Advocate on behalf of families directly affected by MMIWG/MMIMB through referrals of services.
· Develop effective partnerships with other NGO’s and Provincial and Federal Partners through representation on committees and networking.
· Communicate with other program coordinators to discuss activities and community sessions to avoid overlap and partner on events (notably Ignite and the 2SLGBTQQIA+ Coordinators).
· Provide educational sessions to community partners and memberships on prevention of gender-based violence.
· Work assigned side projects related to MMIWG, MMIMB, and Gender Based Violence.
· Maintain familiarity with the Calls to Justice and steps taken to promote justice and reconciliation.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
· Post-secondary education in a relevant field; an equivalent combination of experience and education would be considered.
· Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous issues and traditional cultures.
· Knowledge on Canada’s MMIWG National Action Plan
· Ability to speak at media events and make presentations to large groups of people.
· Ability to document activities and prepare written reports.
· Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.
