Nature of Work: This person will be responsible for assisting in the operations of a summer day camp for children between the ages of 5 – 12 years old. You will be required to organize activities and special events, supervise the children, and work with other program staff.  You will be responsible for creating a safe, fun, creative environment for the children to experience.

Responsibilities

· Assists with the creation and delivery of weekly activity schedules. There must be a wide range of activities and special events, with consideration for different ages and the individual needs of participants.
· Provides a healthy snack twice daily for the participants.
· Maintains a clean and safe camp environment.
· Camp counselors must be prepared to actively lead and participate within the program.
· Maintain order and discipline to help ensure the day camp program runs smoothly.
· Maintain good relations with participants, parents, fellow employees, and is supportive of the Charlottetown Parks & Recreation Department and its staff and programs.
· Record any accidents or injuries that occur to participating youth, and report to the Parks and Recreation Department.
· Assist the supervisor with a final report, which will include a summary of activities, recommendations, issues/concerns.
· Other duties required as requested by the Parks & Recreation Department. 

  Qualifications

· Previous working experience supervising and programming for children.
· Strong leadership and communication skills are required.
· Education or training in a childcare or recreation field would be considered an asset.
· Basic CPR and First Aid (training provided).
· Must be self-motivated, able to work independently and lead by example.
· Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Hourly Wage:  $17.50 per hour – 40 hours per week
Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM. Staff work a rotating schedule to ensure adequate coverage.
