  • The Department of Economic Growth, Tourism and Culture Internship Development Program aims to provide high level professional development and practical training, combined with a project-based placement for new or recent graduates in the following areas:
    1) Assisting in development and/or implementation of a department wide Gender, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (GDEI) Strategic Plan and an Evaluation Model;
    2) Assisting in the development and/or implementation of a community engagement model that improves engagement with clients and diverse populations;
    3) Other possible project(s) assigned by the department.

    The main purpose of the Project Officer Intern positions is to provide key support to the Department of Economic Growth, Tourism & Culture’s strategic initiatives and corporate projects. The incumbents will provide support in a wide range of duties including project development, timeline monitoring, and execution.

    Primary duties will include:
    – Assisting with the collection of qualitative information through collaboration with managers and program leads for the purpose of project development;
    – Supporting execution of the project through monitoring and controlling timeline;
    – Working with the project team to address, develop and deliver resources;
    – Tracking and monitoring project milestones to ensure projects are staying on target;
    – Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to collect information related to project research, content and deliverables;
    – Preparing intermediate and final project reports;
    – Providing an up-to-date analysis of ongoing project;
    – Performing basic research and related to the signed projects and initiatives;
    – Writing draft research reports based on well-defined and credible evidence;
    – Assisting with collection of data internally and externally for the purpose of developing a project;
    – Coordinating information and preparing project evaluation;
    – Assisting project team in project presentations and evaluations; and
    – Other duties as required.


    Minimum Qualifications:
    – Successful completion of a post-secondary program within 36 months prior to program start date.
    – Experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
    – Some experience in meeting tight timelines;
    – Some experience in identifying, retrieving, evaluating and synthesizing evidence from peer-reviewed documents on a broad range of topics;
    – Some experience in working with, or engagement in community organizations or groups;
    – Must be seeking a focused work term for 12 months;
    – A valid status to work full-time during the term of the Intern Program;
    – Strong facilitation skills to present information using traditional and/or digital media in a clear, concise and accurate manner through effective written, oral and visual communication; and
    – Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills with the ability to foster collaboration and partnerships.

    Other Qualifications:
    – Project coordination experience considered an asset;
    – Active engagement with diverse community organizations or ethnic/underrepresented groups is an asset;
    – Bilingualism or multilingualism is an asset;
    – Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset
