The Department of Economic Growth, Tourism and Culture internship opportunities aim to provide high level professional development and practical training, combined with a project-based placement
for new or recent graduates.   

The main purpose of the Policy Officer Intern position is to provide key support to the Department of Economic Growth, Tourism & Culture’s policy division (Economic and Population Growth) on various strategic initiatives and corporate projects. The incumbent will provide support in a wide range of duties including project development, timeline monitoring and execution.
                         
Primary duties will include:
–  Assisting with the collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative information through collaboration with managers and policy/program leads for the purpose of project development;
–  Supporting execution of the project through monitoring and controlling timeline;
–  Working with the project team to address, develop and deliver resources;
–  Tracking and monitoring project milestones to ensure projects are staying on target;
–  Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to collect information related to project research, content and deliverables;
–  Preparing intermediate and final project reports;
–  Providing an up-to-date analysis of ongoing project;
–  Performing basic research and related to the signed projects and initiatives;
–  Writing draft research reports based on well-defined and credible evidence;
–  Assisting with collection of data internally and externally for the purpose of developing a project;

–  Coordinating information and preparing project evaluation;
–  Assisting project team in project presentations and evaluations; and

–  Other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:
    –  Successful completion of a post-secondary program within previous 36 months;
    –  Experience in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
    –  Some experience in meeting tight timelines;
    –  Some experience in identifying, retrieving, analyzing, evaluating and synthesizing evidence from reports and documents;
    –  Some experience in working with, or engagement in community organizations or groups;
    –  Some experience with facilitating and presenting information in a clear, concise and accurate manner through effective written, oral and visual communication;
    –  Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills with the ability to foster collaboration and partnerships;
    –  Must be seeking a focused work term for 12 months; and
    –  A valid status to work full-time during the term of the Internship.

    Other Qualifications:    

    –  Project coordination experience considered an asset;
    –  Active engagement with diverse community organizations or ethnic/underrepresented groups is an asset;
    –  Bilingualism or multilingualism is an asset;
    –  Financial acumen is an asset.

    Preference will be given to UPSE Civil Employees as per the UPSE Civil Collective Agreement.
